Lagos State
Ministry of Health, Alausa, Ikeja – Increasing urbanization and
industrialization of Lagos State has led to significant increase in the number
of road traffic, industrial and marine accidents and medical emergencies. This
led, in March 2001, to the establishment of Lagos State Ambulance Service
(LASAMBUS) to offer pre-hospital care for the residents of the state.
Both LASAMBUS and its hospital-based analogue – Lagos State Emergency
Medical Service (LASEMS) have, since inception, been running emergency service
on a 24/7 basis.
The services of LASAM BUS are run with the objective of reducing the
risk of emergencies resulting in fatal outcomes. The crew are trained to be the
first responders in medical and surgical emergencies, and the ambulances are
equipped and manned for the purpose.
